At the St. Teresa of Calcutta Preschool Ossian Site the 4 year program run from Monday through Thursday, 8:15 AM to 3:25 PM.
The preschool provides a rich learning environment that encourages children’s natural curiosity and supports them to take risks that lead to new skill development. It is a setting where children feel safe, respected, and cared for. This is an opportunity for all three and four year-old children to take part in planned, active learning experiences to build their readiness skills. The preschool program has adopted and meets the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards, administered by the Iowa Department of Education. The Iowa Early Learning Standards are used to guide expectations for the children and instructional practices.
St. Teresa of Calcutta Preschool is a collaborative partner and participates in the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program (SWVPP). Tuition is $190 a month for Monday through Thursday. We also participate in the Department of Human Services Quality Rating Scale.
Food Program
Breakfast and lunch will be offered to all students in school lunchroom. Lunch menus will be sent home once a month and are available through the Hot Lunch link.
Healthy snacks are served in the afternoon for snack. Families take turns bringing in the snack, in line with the “Suggested Snack Calendar” to ensure a variety of healthy foods are served to your child while at school.
Our Approach
The goals of our four-year-old program come from the Creative Curriculum for Preschool and focus on four main areas of child development, including: social/emotional development; physical development; cognitive development, and language development. We also have objectives for learning in the development areas of: literacy, mathematics, science and technology, social studies, and the arts.
Our classroom is set up in learning “centers”, which include blocks, dramatic play, books, gross motor, fine motor, science, discovery play, listening, writing, and art. Outdoor play is important to a child’s physical development and is included in the daily schedule. Self-selection is also a daily part of the curriculum and means a child has the opportunity to choose which center or activity he/she participates in. This promotes creative expression and development of important social skills.
We utilize Teaching Strategies GOLD for assessment in our four-year-old program to evaluate and track each child’s individual development during his/her school year at St. Teresa Preschool.
